Here are some songs I have composed for those who may be particularly interested in the intersection between Judaism, LGBTQ+, gender-neutrality, and gender equality. I would like to write more – if you can think of a text, or would like to commission me, please get in touch.
- B’ruchah Haba’ah (Blessed Is She) – For centuries, Jewish baby blessings have focussed solely on male children, and there has been no music for children of other genders. I wrote this for the blessing of a baby girl.
- Baruch Atah, B’ruchah At (Blessed Shall You Be) – This updated ancient blessing uses both male and female language, and the implication that all other genders are also included.
- Han’shamah Lach – Praying for the soul at High Holy Days, using a gender-neutral word for God.
- Havayah S’fatai Tiftach – The introductory prayer to the Amidah, using a gender-neutral word for God.
- Kumi Lach Rayati (Rise Up, My Love) – I wrote this for the wedding of lesbian friends of mine.
- Libavtini Achoti Chalah (You have ravished my heart, my sister, my bride) – I wrote this for the wedding of lesbian friends of mine.
- Nir’eh Or (In Your Light We See Light) – For centuries, Jewish baby blessings have focussed solely on male children. This blessing can be used for blessing babies of all genders.
- Your People Will Be My People (Song of Ruth) – A pledge to stay with each other, and to honour God as One. This can be used for a same-sex wedding, at Shavuot, or a conversion ceremony.
Since 2020, I have also been involved transcribing, proofreading and editing music for the Jewish Feminist and Gender-Inclusive Adding Our Voices project in the USA, partnered with the Sounds of the Synagogue archive curated by Hanover University.
