I wrote this after coming back home from my first ever experience of a Limmud conference, camping in a field in the heart of the English countryside, where I heard the most amazing gig that mixed Israeli and Sephardic music. One of the pieces had a particularly striking two part structure, a driving, restless melody in minor mode, leading into a more upbeat melody in a major key. This nigun is my way of paying homage to that music, the English setting where it happened, and to the wonderful mind – and heart – opening that I had that first time at Limmud.
